What is coming next
Volt is developing its existing framework and exploring additional capabilities. The items below are plans, not promises of release dates or claims that these features are already available.
Reliable releases and core behavior
Upcoming work includes improving npm release automation and verifying installed packages, as well as expanding tests for request parsing, routing, validation, errors, middleware and the Node adapter.
Microservices and message queues
Volt is exploring optional messaging packages so services can communicate through events without requiring a broker in ordinary HTTP applications. Planned work includes an adapter interface, a development-only in-memory adapter and a RabbitMQ adapter. Kafka and NATS are potential future adapters.
A production-ready broker adapter needs integration tests and clear behavior for authentication and TLS, delivery acknowledgements, publisher confirms, retries, dead-letter handling, rate limits, payload limits and graceful shutdown. Delivery semantics differ between brokers; availability and guarantees will be documented when implemented and tested.
Developer experience and integrations
Planned improvements include more complete CLI templates and tutorials for authentication, testing and database access. Database and cache guides will continue to distinguish mock defaults from real client integrations.
Observability and performance
Future work may include request IDs, health and readiness endpoints, structured logs, and metrics and tracing integrations. Performance work will focus on repeatable benchmarks across realistic routes, middleware and validation. Results depend on the workload and environment.
