Compare the learning paths
Elysia documents routes, lifecycle, validation, testing, and WebSockets. Hono separates its core API from guides for validation, testing, streaming, and middleware. Fastify separates getting-started guides from detailed server, request, reply, hooks, plugins, and schema references. Volt follows this guide/reference split and adds complete examples for implemented APIs.
| Task | Volt | Other frameworks |
|---|---|---|
| Start a server | new Volt(), routes, listen() on Bun | Elysia optimizes for Bun; Hono uses runtime adapters; Fastify uses its server API |
| Route inputs | path, handler, schema, middleware array | Check each framework's argument order and validation model |
| Validation | Built-in t schemas; explicit Static types | Elysia has schema/type integration; Hono uses validators; Fastify uses JSON Schema/type providers |
| Testing | createTestClient(app) with native Responses | Each framework provides its own in-process testing pattern |
| State | c.store currently shares app decorations | State lifetimes differ; verify before porting authentication or DI code |
| Database setup | Explicit real client injection | Database drivers and lifecycle still need application configuration |
Choose using your workload
Compare runtime requirements, type inference, plugin maturity, HTTP semantics, and integration tests on your endpoints. Volt's API is evolving; consult each guide's current boundaries before migrating. There is no universal speed winner from a single synthetic result.
